Pupil Premium and Sports Premium
Pupil Premium
At Uffington School we endeavour to support all our pupils. We do this by providing high quality classroom teaching supplemented by interventions to support vulnerable learners as and when required.
Children of families serving in HM Forces, Looked After Children and children eligible for Free School Meals attract the Pupil Premium. Children who have ever been eligible for Free School Meals continue to attract the Pupil Premium under the ‘Ever 6’ ruling; the reason for this is that, as a group, children who have been eligible for Free School Meals at any point in time have consistently lower educational attainment than those who have never been eligible for Free School Meals. The Government believes that the Pupil Premium is the best way to address the current inequalities by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who most need it.
At Uffington School, we endeavour to encourage all those families who are eligible for Free School Meals to register, even if they do not wish to take a meal provided by the school, in order to release the funding to which they are entitled.
The school receives an annual sum of £1,480 for children eligible for Free School Meals, and £335 for the children of service personnel. Looked After Children are awarded the sum of £1,500 and Previously Looked After children receive additional funding at a rate of £2,530 per annum. It is the responsibility of governing bodies to monitor how the Pupil Premium is used to improve outcomes for children in these groups.
The governors of Uffington Church of England Primary School have made the decision to utilise Pupil Premium funding as follows:
- To provide additional small group teaching in English and Mathematics;
- To support learning through the provision of teaching assistants;
- To support good school attendance;
- To provide specialist counselling, e.g. play therapy;
- To fund, in full, any costs relating to extra-curricular activities and visits, including residential trips.
The Headteacher and Governing Body monitor the attainment and progress of children eligible for the Pupil Premium on a regular basis in order to assess the impact of funding.
Sports Premium
Uffington CE Primary School is allocated Primary PE Sports Premium which provides funding to support and improve the quality of PE and Sports in our school. Schools must spend this funding on their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.
We use the Sports Premium to ensure that all pupils have access to a sports programme that will stimulate and promote healthy and active lives and enable them to fulfil their sporting potential.
Through the Primary PE sports premium we aim to support:
- The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – kick-starting healthy active lifestyles
- The raising of the profile of PE and sport across the school as a tool for whole school improvement
- The development of increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
- The provision of a broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
- Increased participation in competitive sport
Uffington CE Primary School is a member of a local sports charity called Inspire+. The charity was set up specifically to support schools develop PE, school sport and leadership in both primary and secondary schools. Details of the charity can be seen on their website www.inspireplus.org.uk
Our commitment to the development of PE and Sport has been recognised through the School Games Mark. The School Games Mark is a government led awards scheme launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. Participating in this process allows schools to evaluate their PE provision and assists them in developing an action plan for future progress. We are proud to have achieved the GOLD standard once again in 2022.
