Collective Worship
Collective worship in Church of England schools is a highly valued and set apart time in the school day and week, where the whole school community can gather together in a time that is honouring and worthy to God.
All schools are required by law to provide pupils with a daily act of collective worship regardless of whether or not they are a Church school. The difference with church schools lies in the fact that all acts of worship must be Christian. This means that they should be based on the Bible and the life and teaching of Jesus. The whole school community involves all pupils and all staff, unless they have sought the right to withdraw from acts of worship.
At Uffington, worship is led by teaching staff, the Rector, members of Uffington Church, and the children themselves. A highlight of the week is the Open the Book session led by members of the congregation in Uffington church especially for our Reception and Key Stage 1 children.
At Uffington School, acts of worship are:
Inclusive: Our understanding of Christianity is that it is an inclusive faith which mirrors the attitude of Christ in the Gospels. Thus, we welcome children, staff and families of all faiths and none to our worship.
Invitational: Our acts of worship are inclusive of everybody, with an open invitation to participate.
Inspirational: Our acts of worship contribute to the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of all through a wide range of experiences.
We use a range of materials, both traditional and more modern, to suit all tastes and there are regular opportunities for parents, carers and members of the community to join us in worship in Uffington Church. Please click on the link below to access the Collective Worship policy.
Parents are advised of their right to withdraw their children from daily collective worship; requests should be made to the Headteacher in writing.
